Buddha Amitayus is a symbolism for eternal life. Unlike Buddha Amitabha, Amitayus is always depicted as a 16-year old youth and adorns elaborate celestial attire with a five-leaved crown that represents the five directional Buddhas. He holds a long-life vase with an ashoka tree (tree of life). The vase is supposed to be filled withe nectar of longevity.
