Vajrasattva
Material: Bronze
Origin: Nepal
Height: 44 cm
Code: VS-008
Right hand holds a 5-pronged vajra (dorje) in front of the chest, left hand holds a bell resting on his thigh. The vajra symbolises compassion while the bell symbolises wisdom. Vajrasattva is seated in a lotus meditation pose. The 5-leaved crown representing the Five-Dhyani Buddhas (Buddhas of the five directions) are connected with two ribbons curling gracefully close to his ears. He is adorned with large earrings and two necklaces. One necklace holds a large pendant extending over his chest, while the other necklace reaches his navel. His body is an unusual hue of blue although white is the commonly seen complexion.
The most common practice associated with Vajrasattva is the purification practice for the removal of one’s defilements and obstacles on the spiritual path, as well as the forgiveness of transgressions. Higher tantra teachings depict Vajrasattva as the sambhogakaya form of the primordial buddha Sambantabadra.
