Royal Emblem of Thailand’s King Rama IX
It is not common to spot buddha statues with a Royal Emblem embossed or inscribed onto it.
What does this Royal Emblem signify?
The Emblem is the personal flag of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej or Rama IX (5 Dec 1927 – 13 Oct 2016).
The background of the flag is yellow or golden in color which signifies the Monday birth of the King.
The emblem is made up of 3 parts:
- Personal cypher made up from the Thai characters “ภ ป ร” (B P R equivalent in English), which eludes to Bhumipol Rex.
- This is surmounted by the Great Crown of Victory with sun rays shining from the top.
- Under the crown is the Thai symbol for Om or UNALOME.
A buddha statue which is embossed with the royal emblem can be regarded as a “Hallmark of Quality”, given the sacred and prestige of the emblem which is restricted from using freely. Here at Mind Place, most of the buddha statues featured do carry the Royal Emblem.
