Gold-Leaved Gilded Seated Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra

Material: Brass

Origin: Thailand

Height: 50 cm

Code: TS-003

Donor: Tan Wee Ju

With the earth-touching mudra, the left hand rests in the lap with the palm facing upward. The right hand rests palm down on the right knee with the fingers pointing toward the earth.

Chinnarat: Aura around the body of Buddha, like a flaming halo.

2 serpents one on each side of the flaming halo. This design was originally started by the 5th King of Sukhothai Kingdom, His Majesty King Maha Thammaracha I, born as Li Thai, and the first Buddhist philosopher who wrote in Thai language.

The two Lions beneath are similar to Burmese design, not surprisingly, as Buddhism was passed from India to Myanmar before transmitting to Thailand.

Notice there is a Royal Emblem embossed on the front and back of this statue.
